Format Overview
UPR-DAA was the peak COVID era — both the 2020 and 2021 World Championships were cancelled, making the Players Cup series the only competitive outlet. The format added Darkness Ablaze to the existing UPR-RCL card pool, introducing Eternatus VMAX (the game's first truly dominant VMAX), Crobat V (universal draw Pokémon), and Centiskorch VMAX (a scaling Fire attacker).
ADP/Zacian V remained the undisputed best deck. Altered Creation's +30 damage and extra prize effect warped every game, and Zacian V's 230-damage Brave Blade backed it up perfectly. The deck was so dominant that Limitless TCG published an article called 'The ADP Problem.' Every other deck in the format existed either to play ADP or to beat it.
The counter-meta was creative. Eternatus VMAX could deal 270 damage with a full Dark bench. Decidueye's Ability blocked all V/GX damage entirely. Baby Blacephalon forced 6-prize games against 3-prize decks. Mad Party (the spiritual successor to Night March) dealt 20× damage per discarded attacker. And Natalie Millar won the Players Cup Finals with LucMetal/Zacian V — a tank strategy using Full Metal Wall GX to reduce all damage by 30 permanently.
Key Cards
Top Decks (10)
ADP / Zacian V
1st Place — Players Cup II Global Finals
Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX's Altered Creation-GX adds +30 damage and an extra Prize card for the rest of the game. Zacian V follows up with 230-damage Brave Blade (260 after ADP). Crobat V replaces Dedenne-GX as the draw support of choice. Metal Saucer accelerates energy. The undisputed best deck of the format.
Eternatus VMAX
Top Cut — Players Cup II
Eternatus VMAX's Dread End deals 30× the number of Dark Pokémon on your bench — 270 damage with a full 8-Dark bench. Crobat V provides draw support while counting as a Dark type. Hoopa blocks single-prize attackers. Hiding Darkness Energy gives free retreat.
Centiskorch VMAX
Top Cut — Players Cup II
Centiskorch VMAX's G-Max Centiferno deals 40 + 40× Fire Energy attached, scaling to huge damage. Welder accelerates energy and draws cards. Volcanion's Flare Starter goes first to attach 3 Fire from deck. Heat Factory Prism Star provides extra draw. Green's ReshiZard evolved into this.
Decidueye (Deep Forest Camo)
Top Cut — Players Cup II
Decidueye's Deep Forest Camo Ability prevents all damage from V and GX Pokémon. In a format dominated by ADP and Eternatus VMAX, this created an unbreakable wall. Turffield Stadium searches Grass evolutions. Rosa searches Pokémon + Trainer + Energy after a KO.
LucMetal / Zacian V
1st Place — Players Cup Finals
Lucario & Melmetal-GX's Full Metal Wall-GX permanently reduces all damage to Metal Pokémon by 30. Zacian V's Intrepid Sword draws 3 and attaches Metal Energy. Metal Goggles adds another -30 damage reduction. The deck walls out anything that can't consistently OHKO 220+ HP through damage reduction.
Baby Blacephalon
Top Cut — Players Cup II
Single-prize Blacephalon's Fireball Circus discards Fire Energy for 30 each — no V or GX liability. Cramorant V's Beak Catch sets up. Fire Crystal and Energy Retrieval recycle discarded energy. Trades favorably against ADP since each KO only gives up 1 prize.
PikaRom (Pikachu & Zekrom-GX)
Top Cut — Players Cup II
Pikachu & Zekrom-GX's Full Blitz attacks for 150 and attaches 3 Lightning from deck. Boltund V provides secondary attacker with Bolt Storm. Speed Lightning Energy draws 2 on attach. Tapu Koko Prism Star accelerates from discard. Raichu & Alolan Raichu-GX resets paralysis.
Mad Party
Top Cut — Players Cup II
Mad Party deals 20× damage for each Pokémon with the Mad Party attack in your discard pile. Polteageist is the primary attacker at 1 prize. Dedenne, Bunnelby, and Sinistea fill the discard pile. Twin Energy provides the 2 Colorless cost. The spiritual successor to Night March.
Dragapult VMAX
Top Cut — Players Cup II
Dragapult VMAX's Max Phantom deals 130 damage and places 5 damage counters on the opponent's bench. Crobat V upgrades draw support over the previous season's Jirachi builds. Horror Psychic Energy punishes attackers. Boss's Orders pulls up targets softened by spread damage.
Vikavolt V / Nuzzle
Top Cut — Players Cup Series
Vikavolt V's Paralyzing Bolt deals 50 and prevents the opponent from playing Item cards next turn — a devastating lock in a format reliant on Quick Ball and Switch. Speed Lightning Energy draws cards on attach. Crushing Hammer disrupts energy. The deck wins through Item lock rather than raw damage.
